Dear Fellow Oxtonian
At the 7th September Parish Council (PC) meeting a fully supported decision was taken to apply to the ‘Veolia Environmental Trust’ for funding to provide a new play area for Oxton. The current play area will be over 10 years old next year, which in play area terms is old. The excessive costs of repair to the equipment no longer make financial sense and, in the not too distant future, will be more than the actual play equipment cost in the first instance. An example of this is the ‘Cushionfall’ under the zipwire. Earlier this year the Cushionfall was topped up to ensure the PC meet the required legal standard – this alone cost £1500.00.
The initial funding bid is the first step in a process which, IF SUCCESSFUL, will then lead onto a community consultation exercise including equipment choices. Many of you will remember the consultation exercise of 11 years ago so understand the process that happened with the community. The equipment consultation exercise was a joyful experience that children, parents and grandparents thoroughly enjoyed.
One very important part of the initial funding bid is ‘letters of support’ from the community as this shows the strength of support for the funding request. It is for this reason I am writing to you.
The Parish Council would be grateful if you could share your support for a new play area funding bid by penning a letter of support, briefly explaining why the play area is important to you, your family and/or the community as a whole. The bid needs to be with the Veolia Environmental Trust by no later than 30th September 2021 for their decision on the 7th December as to whether our bid has been successful. The time frame is tight and there is a good reason for this which is too lengthy to go into in this email but please ask any Councillor for the reasoning and I am sure they will happily advise.
Please email your letter of support to myself at firstname.lastname@example.org by no later than 17:00 FRIDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER. Replies will be collated and included with the bid application.
For obvious reasons, an article in the October edition of the Dover Beck will miss the bid deadline.
Chairman of the Parish Council
