‘PARISH MATTERS’…..a monthly update on news affecting Oxton

Parish Matters1

REPLACEMENT TREES: Readers will recall that, several months ago, County issued an order for the removal of the trees on the junction of the Old Epperstone Rd/Southwell Rd on the grounds of disease. Well, the good news is that these will be replaced in September of this year.

TRAVELLERS:- Most of you will be aware that Travellers have been camped in various places around the village for several months, sometimes just moving from one site back to the same site within weeks.

The Parish Council has no powers to issue injunctions demanding them to move on. This is the role of County Council. If you feel you would like to raise your concerns/comments then please contact either:-

Roger Jackson Newark & Sherwood District Councillor & Notts County Councillor Holme Farm Gonalston Notts. NG14 7JA Phone: 0115 9663970 Mobile: 07866 494731 rjac900@aol.com
Mark Spencer Member of Parliament (Sherwood Constituency) House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA / c/o Under One Roof, 3A Vine Terrace, Hucknall, NG15 7HN 020 7219 3000 / 0115 968 1186 mark.spencer.mp@parliament.uk

WAR MEMORIAL WORKING PARTY: Councillors Hannah Lempicki & Lyndsey Whitby asked the Parish Council (PC) for permission to lead a Working Party whose role will be to investigate whether there is a need for another war memorial and if so, what type/design, commemorating which wars and potential sites for it. Readers will be aware that Oxton has a beautiful stained glass window in the church commemorating the lost souls of WW1. No doubt more information will be made available via MyOxton and the Dover Beck. If you would like to be involved with the Working Party or have an opinion please leave a comment at the end of this page or, contact either Lyndsey at lyndseywhitby@gmail.com or Hannah at hannah.lempicki@gmail.com

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLES:  There has been reports of two suspicious vehicles, I believe white vans, trying garage doors. Please keep vigilant and if you see anything of a suspicious nature then report it to the Police on 101. The Police use this kind of intelligence to build profiles on potential criminal activities.

BEST KEPT VILLAGE COMPETITION: Oxton has made it thru’ to the 2nd round so let’s keep up the good work keeping the village looking beautiful and tidy.

Please feel free to leave a comment regarding any item on Parish Matters. More next month so, watch this space……………..Jill, 11 July ’19
