**STOP PRESS** OXTON SOCIAL COMMITTEE – RELAUNCH MEETING

meeting

Way back in February 2012 the Oxton Social Committee (OSC) met for the last time – yes, it was that long ago! I wasn’t involved with the OSC due to Parish Council commitments but I have decided to attempt to ‘resurrect’ the Committee with a view to organising social events for the village.

Village Halls are an expensive asset for any village to maintain. Oxton is lucky in as much as there is the Thomas Bell Trust Fund (of which I am a Trustee) whose purpose is to provide financial support for the maintenance of the fabric of the building. Capital expenditure projects are within the remit of the Trust Fund but ‘year on year’ general maintenance requirements are not, therefore, if the OSC could restart organising events which utilised the Hall then this would help the Village Hall coffers as well as being an excellent vehicle for bringing the Community together.

My primary aim is to organise an informal meeting in the Park View room at the village hall in order to:-

  • find out if people think there is a need for a social committee
  • give opportunities for questions
  • check out any ideas for events
  • ask for actual Committee members
  • find out if there are people who don’t want to be on the Committee but would like to help in other ways.

This way a list of who’s who with contact details can be collated. The more the merrier so please feel free to invite along anyone you think may be interested. Help is always needed when organising social events. At the moment there are 15 definite attendees. This is a great way of getting to know people in Oxton. Why not come and join us!

PARK VIEW ROOM (the old Bar Room) in the VILLAGE HALL on THURSDAY 31ST JANUARY at 7:30pm for about 1-1.5 hours. D

Do come along at any point if you can’t make the 7:30 start time. We are a very friendly bunch of people!

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss further.

All best wishes
