The event to mark the 50th Anniversary at Oxton Village Hall was a huge success with many activities taking place over a few hours on Saturday 5th July 2014. It was a fitting tribute to the role the hall has played in the village over the last 50 years. A good crowd of villagers turned out covering all ages and the weather was great making it a very enjoyable afternoon and evening.
Special thanks go to all those people who helped to make the day a success. It is impractical to mention here all people by name but there were some who put in a lot of work into making the event possible.
Not only were there cream teas by the WI, a bar, and ice cream and food served most of the day enjoyed whilst watching a continuous photo and film presentation bringing back memories for many of the older villagers. The Oxton Hand bell Ringers also performed. For younger children there was Jo Jingles event with lots of noise, music and laughter.
On the field there was a display of exotic birds, craft activity, storytelling, hook a duck, tug of war, rounders, croquet and much more.
The dog show organised by Gemma and Helena was a massive success and perhaps one to be repeated in future years.
Thank you to all those people who put a car in our classic car display on the car park. Also for those artists in the village who kindly displayed their work in the art exhibition where about 30 pictures were on display.
Finally the evening was rounded off with the band “Loose Chippings” where everyone enjoyed the music and dancing into the night.
