Inspections:- Not many people know this but the PC has various assets spread throughout the village some of which have to be checked on a regular basis in order to ascertain their safety. A recent inspection of the hedges found no problems but two benches in the village have seen better days. It has been decided to remove the bench at the end of Blind Lane as it is beyond repair. A request has been submitted to County Highways to ask whether they will fund a replacement bench for the one at the junction of Forest Road and the A6097 by-pass. The bench is on the main highway and is regularly used by cyclists so it was felt appropriate to ask Highways to replace it. The play spaces are formally checked on a monthly basis in order to ensure all equipment is fit for use and damage free. There is also an annual inspection carried out by an independent party. Also, did you know that our fantastic play area has a Play Space Carers Rota? The “Carers” are Parishioners who volunteer their time to check the play spaces for dangerous objects like broken glass, report any incidences of misuse and report potential hazardous equipment. A BIG thank you to all those people who help keep the area safe for children to play and enjoy themselves.
Access Required At All Times:- Some users of the village hall car park have been blocking access to the recreation ground by parking in front of the 5-bar gate. Emergency access to the play areas and recreation ground is required at all times so I would be grateful if individuals would park their cars in the allocated parking bays. Thank you.
New Gate Into Toddler Play Area:- The replacement gate is now in place and works wonderfully. Many thanks to Matthew Bramble, Oxton resident, who the PC tasked with replacing the old, worn out one.
Grassed Pitch Area On The Recreation Field:- People are now using the new pitch area for games and expressions of interest have been made for organised football training to take place on this area of the field. The PC is considering a suggestion that edges of the new grassed area be marked out for easy identification.
Minutes of Meetings:- Full minutes of meetings can be found at www.oxtonpc.org.uk and are now posted on the PC notice board.
**REMEMBER** THERE’S A PUBLIC MEETING ON FRIDAY 5TH JULY, 7:30pm IN THE MAIN ROOM, OXTON VILLAGE HALL
TOPIC: CAN THE VILLAGE SHOP and POST OFFICE BE SAVED? If you can, please attend and give your views. Do you know of anyone who may be interested in owning a small business? If so, why not invite them along. Please feel free to email me your ideas/comments if you can’t make it on the night.
That’s all for this month. I hope you all have an enjoyable summer and the weather improves! My next Blog will be in the September edition.
