  1. Nottsbus-5:

The new local bus timetable starts operation today (8th July 2013).

This bus will now take you to Calverton on an hourly basis from 0933 hrs to 1433 hrs (Mon – Sat). This enables a connection to The Trentbarton Calverton Connection (CC) service to Arnold and Nottingham.

Return journeys are much better than before, but still not excellent, however they run from Calverton back to Oxton from 1025 hrs to 1425 hrs.

The service goes on through Epperstone, Shelt Hill (new stop), Lowdham and then along the Burton Joyce (A612) road and onward along the Netherfield Bypass to Netherfield Victoria Retail Park (NVRP), for B&Q, Halfords, Morrisons etc.

It now terminates there and will NOT progress to Nottingham.

The journey to/from NVRP takes 53 minutes.
The journey to/from Calverton takes 5 minutes.

In addition to the newly restored connection at Calverton, travellers can also change at Lowdham (or Burton Joyce) to catch the NCT Pathfinder 100 service eastbound to Southwell, or at the same location(s) westbound on the same service to Nottingham. Note that the Pathfinder 100 does not go along the shoppingThe 100 is an excellent service and well worth a try.

If you catch one of the last two buses of the day at NVRP you need to REQUEST that the driver take you to Oxton, otherwise the service will terminate at Lowdham.

    Towards Intergrated Transport

County Council Officers at the TITAN Roadshow (visiting Oxton on 10th June) hoped that people should not have to wait more than 10 minutes at a recognised changing point (“Hub”). Calverton, Burton Joyce and Lowdham have shopping and sheltering facilities and the first two have cafes. All three have local libraries (when they are open).

“Transport for Oxton”, the working party commissioned under the Oxton Village Plan, is very keen to meet with anybody using the new Nottsbus-5 service, in terms of punctuality, reliability, adherence to timetable, customer care, fares, destinations and connections. Any views you hear from other users are also welcome.

The existing County Council plan diagrams for transport in our area can be viewed at :
Please note that Oxton falls within the GEDLING area for these purposes.

The Equality Impact Assessment is available at :

These are now shown at Bus Stops, but no phone numbers are offered.
It may be possible to arrange a connection via this website.

The new timetable can be accessed at http://www.facebook.com/AOTcoaches

The County Council website address for timetables is
however the Nottsbus-5 service has yet to be updated.

    Phone AOT on : 08450 170 747
    Trentbarton (for CC service) : 01773 712265
    Nottingham City Transport (Patherfinder 100) 0115 950 6070
    Notts County Council on : 0300 500 80 80

The County Council phone number caters for all types of feedback, not just transport, It should be used for serious complaints about Nottsbus 5, and is only open 8 am to 8pm Mon-Fri, and 8am to 12 noon on Saturday.

For immediate problems, try the AOT, Trentbarton or NCT numbers. The County Council will not be able to help (for example) if the bus is late or fails arrive.

Calling AOT is an untried system, so it would also be wise to get to know the AOT drivers and understand their issues.

So far, AOT have been very punctual, well done.

For those who think we deserve something better, please remember that small operators like AOT are very nervous about taking on too many tasks for fear of following Premiere Travel into insolvency. They operate on small margins and have to dovetail local services with school commuting contracts which can be financially crucial to the business. This is why the service does not operate in the late afternoon, evening or on Sunday.

You can always raise the issue with your local Parish Councillors, District Councillor, County Councillor or MP. GIve the Operator a chance first.

If you contact us (TfO), we can more easily ascertain the level of demand and help the Parish Council understand the issues.

We are aware that further government cuts may be scheduled for next year, so we have until Spring 2014 to prove that we need this service to Oxton.

The two early morning Trentbarton (CC) services starting from Oxton and these are unaffected. They are very welcome and appear to be working well.
