Huge thanks to Jim Knowles, Group Archaeologist of the West Lothian Archaeology Group, who has made these fantastic aerial photos of Oldox camp available to us.
- A shot looking over the hillfort with the entrance at the northern end.
- A shot looking over the tumulus that was excavated back in the late 18th century. A funerary urn was found, along with knife, sword and beads. This suggests an Iron age to Saxon date, but with no modern evidence to confirm the dating, then this will remain just a paragraph in history.
- A shot looking over the northern entrance towards the mounds and ridge.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch to the east.
- A shot looking over the northern entrance of the fort and across the remains of the double bank and ditch.
- A shot looking through the ditch.
- A shot looking over the western corner of the ditch and bank.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch to the west. A massive twinned oak tree sits in the middle of the shot, with the rig and furrow clear in the image.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch to the west. A massive twinned oak tree sits in the middle of the shot, with the rig and furrow clear in the image.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch, showing the break in the ditch and a continuation of a field boundary beyond.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch to the south. The ‘funneled’ southern entrance can be clearly seen with the pond beyond.
- A shot looking over the middle of the fort back towards the mounds.
- A shot looking over the tree lined bank and ditch to the north. A well can be seen to the east which is obviously older than than the fort, suggesting continuation.
The images were taken from a camera rig attached to a kite string.
