Sports & Exercise news from Roy Walker
Mike Lees, who was to lead this Village Plan project, has unfortunately had to pull out of this committment. So, we need volunteers to step up to the plate and take his place. The aim was to confirm demand for a gym, research a suitable location and range of equipment needed, and then source the equipment, determining safety requirements, installation and maintenance costs. Could any volunteers please contact Roy Walker on 9653595 or via the contact form below.Junior Football Coaching in Oxton
Roy has spoken to a villager who runs a Junior Football team, featuring two young Oxtonians, who has said he would be interested in coaching football on the new football pitches but will need some assistance. So we need more Dads with boys or girls who would be interested in taking on the task of providing coaching for the kids. Any takers please contact Roy Walker, tel 9653595, or via the contact form below.Sport Makers during the Olympic year
Sports Makers is a new programme, organised by SPORT ENGLAND and backed with Lottery money to make it easy for you to help make sport happen near you – from setting up sport with your mates (like fun runs or 5 a side football) to helping out with local sports clubs or cricket clubs. This scheme is primarily aimed at over 16s. So get in touch with Roy if you’re interested in becoming a Sports Maker and would like help to run with this scheme, or would just like further information.Chair Based Exercises
We have had a setback with this scheme as Roy was due to be trained as a leader which would have enabled him to take classes starting in the Spring. However Gedling Council have pulled the classes due to Government funding! However, he has had lots of help from Newark and Sherwood but unfortunately they do not have any Leader training in place at this time. Roy is exploring other avenues with, hopefully, a start date in the Spring. He is still attending a weekly class of Chair exercises at the CORE Centre, so watch this space for updates.
